Tomato rings are used in horticulture in order to aid in the support and trellising of tomato plants both in a greenhouse or open field, each tomato ring can be opened and closed using its fastening device or clip, that tie the stem of the plant to the trellis system used, be it HORTOMALLAS or raffia twine, of the type usually used in greenhouses in conjunction with a tutoring hook.
When using tomato rings, the tutoring of the plant is made easier and faster, and it reduces the mechanical stress on the vegetable system as compared to twisting the trellis twine (known as raffia ) around the tomato stalk like what is done inside greenhouses with indeterminate tomato varieties.
Tomato rings are also used in conjunction with trellis netting as some growers prefer to secure the plant unto the net as compared to others who just let it lean on the horizontal meshes.
